Oven Not Heating means the appliance runs its cycle and displays a set temperature while the cavity stays cold. On an electric range the bake circuit is switched by a relay and watched by a sensor, so the control can behave perfectly while nothing at all is being energised inside the cavity.
- Causes
- An open bake element · A bake relay not switching on the control · An oven sensor reading out of range · One hot leg lost at the supply · A broken element connection at the rear wall
- Repair
- We watch the bake element from cold for an even glow along its length, then test it for continuity and check the connections where it passes through the rear wall. If the element is sound we measure whether the control is switching that circuit, and read the oven sensor against room temperature. Losing one leg of the supply is checked here too, since it leaves an electric oven cold while the display works normally. The failed part is then replaced and proven.

Burner Not Working
Burner Not Working on a range describes a single cooking position that has stopped while the oven and the other positions behave normally. Because the rest of the appliance is healthy, the supply and the control as a whole are already proven, and the search narrows to that position's own switch, wiring and element.

- Repair
- We isolate the range and work back from the dead position: the element or burner itself, then its connections, then the switch or touch control feeding it. Burned terminals and scorched connectors are replaced rather than remade, since heat damage recurs where it started. The position is then run across its full range of settings.

Control Board Failure on a range covers a board that has genuinely failed rather than one blamed for a sensor fault somewhere else. Real board failures show themselves as welded relays leaving a circuit energised, scorched tracks around the relay pins, or a board that no longer wakes at all after a surge.

- Repair

Visible scorching around the relays settles it quickly. A replacement is fitted as the correct part for the model and configured where the model requires it.

Range Oven Not Heating is the same complaint approached from the gas and safety side rather than the element side. A gas oven will not heat until its igniter draws enough current to open the safety valve, and either fuel will refuse to heat while a thermal cut-out has opened or the door lock is still engaged after a cleaning cycle.

- Repair

The igniter is replaced in preference to the valve, and a tripped cut-out investigated for the overheating that opened it rather than simply renewed.

On a sealed-burner range the well collects boilovers that reach the electrode and the ports beneath the head, so the cause is often liquid and residue sitting where nothing at all is visible until the head is lifted.

Where a fuel conversion has been carried out we confirm the orifices match the gas actually supplied. Every joint opened is leak-tested before the range returns to use.

Electric Range Burner Not Heating on a smooth-top range means a zone that no longer warms while the glass and the controls look entirely normal. Under the ceramic the element sits in an insulated dish with its own limiter, and that limiter can hold a zone off completely without the element being at fault.

- Repair
- We lift the top and test the radiant element cold, then check the limiter and the leads at its terminal block. Elements are replaced complete in their dish where the model is built that way. We then heat the zone through its range and check it cycles rather than sitting permanently on.

Range Not Level
Range Not Level shows up in the cooking long before anyone notices the appliance is tilted: oil pools to one side of a pan, cakes rise unevenly and liquids sit deeper at one end of a tray. The range is levelled at installation and floors move afterwards, so this is a fault that returns over the years.

- Repair

Pyrolytic cleaning depends on the cavity reaching and holding a very high temperature, so anything bleeding heat away or persuading the control it is too hot will end the cycle with ash still on the walls.

We then run a full cycle and confirm it reaches temperature and completes.

It is a different fault from an oven that swings either side of its setting, and it is usually corrected by offsetting the control rather than by fitting parts.

Where the drift is beyond adjustment, or the sensor reads wrongly against its resistance table, the sensor or thermostat is replaced and the measurement repeated.

Surface Element Switch Failure shows as a cooking position stuck at full heat, dead at every setting, or cycling at obviously the wrong rate. The infinite switch turns the element on and off in a repeating pattern to produce a low setting, and contacts that have pitted or welded destroy that pattern entirely.

- Repair
- We watch the element with the control at a low setting to see whether it cycles at all, which is the quickest indication that a switch is no longer doing its job. Switches are replaced rather than dismantled, as the contacts cannot be serviced. Any scorched connector is renewed at the same time and every setting tested.

The one thing not to do is dismantle it first. A machine presented in pieces takes longer to diagnose than one that is intact, because the technician now has to establish what was original and what was done since. If something has already been replaced, say so — that is useful, and it is not a criticism.
