Gas in an apartment building

Gas smell from range in a flat is a building matter first. Leave the flat, tell the superintendent and call the gas company from outside; do not light anything or switch lights. Once the building has made it safe, we test the range's valves, connector and burners.

In older Coolidge Corner and Washington Square buildings the range connector may be decades old. Replacing an old or unsuitable connector is work we do with the building's shut-off in place.
