Proving the board guilty

A KitchenAid oven that will not heat can show a fault code that seems to accuse the control. In practice the code identifies a circuit, and that circuit includes an element, a sensor and several connections, any of which can be the real culprit. We measure each before accepting that the relay on the board has gone.

When a relay has failed, it is usually on the element circuit, and the symptom is an element that never energises however hard the board calls for heat.

Heavy doors and the warming drawer

KitchenAid oven doors are substantial, and the springs in their hinges wear. A door that drifts open slightly or drops when lowered has a hinge problem, and it quietly costs the oven heat. Replacing both hinges together keeps the door square against the gasket.

Many KitchenAid ranges carry a warming drawer below the oven. A drawer that binds or sits crooked usually has a worn slide or a bent rail, while one that no longer warms has its own element and thermostat circuit to test.
