Corrosion as the default fault

Spark electrodes crust, switches short, oven door hinges seize and screws rust into the backguard. All range burners clicking simultaneously and backguard / control panel loose are both more common on Cape Ann than inland, and a corroded oven door hinge can let heat escape so the oven seems to run cold.

Opening the house in spring

Houses closed from October to May sit unheated and damp. The first bake often finds a gas oven igniter glowing but the burner not lighting, or burners slow to catch after months of salt air. Rodents can also nest in the warm drawer or rear panel over winter.

Run each burner and the oven briefly before a busy weekend, and call us if anything smells or refuses to light.
