Clicking, rust and the salt film

Constant clicking when nothing is lit, or a burner that clicks and never catches, usually starts with a damp or salt-fouled electrode or a spark switch behind the knob. Wiping the burner area dry and making sure each cap sits flat is a safe first step for anyone; the switch and harness are ours to replace.

Cast iron grates rusting at Point of Pines or Point Shirley are a surface problem rather than a failure. Seasoning them lightly and drying them after washing slows it, and replacement grates are ordered by model if the enamel has broken away.

Cottages that stood closed all winter

The beachfront conversions often sit empty from autumn to spring. When the cooktop is first used again, a burner that lights weakly or shows a yellow flame has usually had its burner venturi blocked by insects or debris over the winter, and clearing it is a short job.

If a burner smells of gas without lighting on that first day back, turn it off, open the windows and call the gas utility before us. Gas work is not something to try yourself.

The Boulevard towers mostly have fitted kitchens with smoothtop or induction cooktops, and their management offices want our insurance certificate before a visit. The Oak Island and Beachmont houses run conventional four-burner gas.

Because one street can hold all three types, we ask for the model number at booking and load the parts that match it.
