LG gives the cooking surface and the oven cavity their own control boards on its ranges, so a dead hob above a perfectly good oven is an ordinary fault rather than a verdict on the whole appliance. The same separation runs through its standalone cooktops, where the touch panel and the power electronics are distinct parts.

LG Cooktop · Greater Boston
LG Cooktop repair across Greater Boston
That structure shapes how we work on LG cooking surfaces around Greater Boston: isolate the section that has failed, prove it with a meter or the service readout, and leave the healthy parts alone.
Why a zone will not switch off
A relay is a small switch that the board closes to send power to an element. Over years of heavy cycling its contacts can arc and fuse together, and then the element stays live no matter what the controls say. Owners describe it as a burner that will not turn off or a glow that lingers when everything is dark.
This one is urgent. Kill the cooktop at the breaker, leave it off and book a visit; the relay is replaced or the board changed, and we check the element and its wiring for heat damage before restoring power.
Zones that respond selectively
An LG panel that accepts commands for some zones and ignores others can be a membrane fault, a display board fault or a main board that is no longer driving that section. Each has a different part number and a different cost, so the technician tests before naming one.
Before the visit, it is worth using the LG app's diagnostic tone feature while you are on the phone with us, if your model supports it. The readout often narrows the fault enough that the right part is on the van first time.
LG gas cooktops
LG's gas surfaces bring their own list: a burner that lights and then dies, a weak flame on one position, clicking that continues after ignition. Most of that is ports, caps and electrodes, but valve and safety-valve faults do occur and are handled only by the technician.
We shut the supply at the appliance, repair, then leak-check every joint we disturbed before the burners are lit again. Nothing on the gas side of an LG is something to open at home.
Questions
FAQ — LG Cooktop repair
Can't see yours? Just ask us.
My LG range oven works but the cooktop is dead. Is the whole range failing?
Almost certainly not. LG splits the surface and the cavity onto separate boards, so one can fail while the other carries on. Diagnosis confirms which board or supply circuit has gone.
Is the diagnostic tone really worth doing?
On models that support it, yes. It captures fault history the display may not show, and it helps us bring the likely part rather than coming back for a second visit.
An element glowed with the controls off. What should I do right now?
Switch the cooktop off at the breaker and leave it off until it has been inspected. A welded relay will not correct itself, and the element can overheat whatever is resting on it.
