A relay is a small switch that the board closes to send power to an element. Over years of heavy cycling its contacts can arc and fuse together, and then the element stays live no matter what the controls say. Owners describe it as a burner that will not turn off or a glow that lingers when everything is dark.

This one is urgent. Kill the cooktop at the breaker, leave it off and book a visit; the relay is replaced or the board changed, and we check the element and its wiring for heat damage before restoring power.

Zones that respond selectively

An LG panel that accepts commands for some zones and ignores others can be a membrane fault, a display board fault or a main board that is no longer driving that section. Each has a different part number and a different cost, so the technician tests before naming one.
