GE Appliances runs its own engineering platform, distinct from Whirlpool's, and shares parts with Hotpoint and its upper trim lines. On the cooking side it draws a clean line between the parts that deliver heat and the parts that control it, which makes a GE cooktop a satisfying machine to diagnose methodically.

GE Appliances Cooktop · Greater Boston
GE Appliances Cooktop repair across Greater Boston
We work on GE gas, radiant and induction surfaces throughout Greater Boston, from rental kitchens to fitted renovations, and the diagnosis always begins by deciding which side of that line the fault sits on.
One module, every burner
On most GE gas cooktops a single spark module feeds all the electrodes. When one burner switch sticks closed, the whole surface clicks continuously, including burners nobody has turned on; when the module fails, nothing sparks anywhere.
Spills are the usual trigger. Liquid running into a switch under a knob can hold it closed, and a dried residue may clear on its own or may need the switch replaced. The technician tests each switch and the module before deciding which to change.
Relays on the electric models
GE radiant and induction surfaces send power through relays on a control board. A relay that fails open leaves one zone cold; one that fails closed leaves it hot. Both are board-level faults, and parts distribution for GE boards is deep, so availability is rarely the obstacle.
Where the board is fine, the fault is in the element, its limiter or the wiring, and a meter separates those quickly. That split between delivery and control is what keeps a GE diagnosis short.
Reading GE's own codes
GE uses its own fault-code language on many electronic models, and reading it properly is the difference between replacing a sensor and replacing a board. We interpret the code against the model rather than a generic chart.
Gas-side parts, including valves and supply connections, are serviced only by the technician, and every joint is leak-tested before the cooktop is returned to use.
Questions
FAQ — GE Appliances Cooktop repair
Can't see yours? Just ask us.
All my GE burners click nonstop, even when off. Is it dangerous?
It is noisy rather than dangerous in itself, but it usually means moisture or a failing switch. Turn the cooktop off at its breaker or unplug it if accessible, let it dry for a day, and book a visit if the clicking returns.
Are GE and Hotpoint cooktop parts the same?
Many are, because Hotpoint is a GE badge in the US. We still match the part to the model number, since trim levels differ.
One GE smooth-top zone is stone cold. Is that the element?
It may be, or it may be the relay feeding it. We test both before quoting, so you do not pay for an element that was never the problem.
