Receptacles, switches and coil elements

Coil elements plug into a receptacle, and a slightly loose fit makes the contact arc, which blackens the terminal and loosens it further. The element starts working only when nudged, then stops altogether.

Replacing the element alone just repeats the problem, because a burnt receptacle damages the new one. We change the receptacle, inspect the wiring behind it for heat damage and check the surface element switch while the panel is open.

Gas surfaces on the shared platform

Current Maytag gas cooktops use the same igniter, electrode and burner parts as the rest of the family. A burner that lights slowly or lifts its flame often has a cap out of position, a blocked port or a damp electrode after cleaning.

Anything past cleaning and reseating is technician work. We isolate the gas supply before touching valves or fittings and leak-test afterwards.

Older Maytag: repair or retire

For a pre-merger cooktop, the technician checks whether the failed switch or valve is still available before recommending anything. Many mechanical parts are, some electronic ones are not.

If a part cannot be sourced, we tell you at the diagnosis rather than after ordering. On a Maytag cooktop the diagnostic fee is credited if you go ahead with the repair.
