Switches and elements

A Hotpoint coil or radiant zone that stays on full, will not go below high or heats intermittently usually has a worn infinite switch. A coil that works only when pressed down has a scorched receptacle instead.

Both are small GE-platform parts, commonly stocked, and often replaced at the first visit once the model number is confirmed. A cracked or dark-spotted radiant element on a smooth-top model is a different fault and is tested separately.

The wrong Hotpoint

Hotpoint is also a separate European brand with different engineering. Parts ordered online against the name alone often turn out to be European and are returned unused.

We order against the US model number, which avoids that trap entirely. Getting that right at booking is the difference between a first-visit repair and a wasted week.

If you rent, tell us who authorises the repair and how they prefer to approve it. The technician names the failed part and the price before work, so a landlord can say yes or no on clear information. Access to the flat, and whether someone will be home, are worth settling before the arrival window is confirmed.

Gas Hotpoint cooktops are serviced below the burner caps only by the technician. A tenant noticing a gas smell should turn the knobs off, ventilate and call the gas utility from outside before contacting anyone else.
