Cooktop repair in Boston
At the other end of the city, the converted flats of Brighton, Mission Hill and the Fenway usually have a compact twenty-four inch cooktop, frequently electric, dropped into a counter that was cut for something else. The parts, the diagnosis and even the person approving the work are different.
High-output burners in renovated rowhouses
When a professional burner will not hold a low flame, the usual cause is the inner simmer ring: its ports are finer than the main crown and fill with boil-over long before the outer ring shows any trouble. Cleaning those ports and reseating the cap properly fixes more of these calls than any valve does.
A flame that lifts off the burner or roars at full output is an air-and-gas balance question rather than a broken part. On rangetops fitted during a renovation we check the gas type the unit was set up for and the supply pressure at the appliance before we adjust anything.
Compact hobs in student and rental flats
The small electric cooktops in Allston and the Fenway fail in predictable ways: a radiant element that only works at full power points to its infinite switch, and a scorched terminal block usually traces back to a loose connection. Both are ordinary repairs once the model number is known.
Term time matters here. The tenant who reports the fault often cannot approve the cost, so we confirm with the owner or the management company on the phone before anyone travels.
Getting to the kitchen
Parking is the real constraint in this city. Resident permit streets, posted street cleaning and building service elevators in the Seaport and Fenway towers are arranged when the call is booked, and our van cannot use the DCR parkways, so it goes the long way round.
A cooktop comes out through the top of the counter rather than through a doorway, which keeps Beacon Hill's narrow turning stairs from being a problem for this appliance.
A renovated townhouse kitchen on Beacon Hill or in the South End often carries a high-output sealed-burner rangetop that puts out several times the heat of a builder-grade burner. Mass-market service steps do not cover those burners, their dual-stacked simmer rings or their separate spark modules, so we treat them as their own category of job.

Questions
FAQ — Cooktop repair in Boston
Can't see yours? Just ask us.
I smell gas near my cooktop in a Back Bay flat. What should I do?
Leave the flat, do not touch light switches, and call the gas utility's emergency line from outside. Once the utility has made it safe and found the leak at the appliance or its connector, we can repair the cooktop.
Can you service a professional-style rangetop?
Yes. High-output sealed burners, griddles and simmer rings are a regular part of our work in renovated Boston kitchens, and we name the failed part before we quote.
My landlord has to approve repairs. How does that work?
Give us the owner's or manager's contact when you call and we agree the price with them before the visit. That price then stays the same, and the tenant only needs to let the technician in.
