Narrow cavities fail in their own way

A small oven cavity heats fast and loses heat fast, so a door gasket that has flattened on one side shows up as uneven baking long before it shows up as a slow preheat. We check the seal and the hinge seating before touching the control, because a door that sits a few millimetres proud mimics a failed thermostat almost perfectly.

Compact models also pack the cooling fan and the control board tightly above the cavity. When that fan stops, the board cooks, and the owner sees a blank or dim display rather than a heating fault. Replacing the board without the fan simply repeats the failure a few weeks later.

Stairs, towers and parkways
