Heat that never arrives

When the cavity fails to warm at all, the bake element is the prime suspect, and on Maytag ovens its weak point is the terminal end. A burned connection there can masquerade as a board fault because the display lights and the oven appears to try.

Continuity across the element and a look at the spade connectors behind the rear panel settle it quickly. If the element reads open, it is replaced along with any connector that shows heat damage, so the new part is not fed through a scorched joint.

Gas ovens that glow but will not light

Gas Maytag ovens depend on an igniter drawing a set current before the valve will open. A weakening igniter still glows orange, so the owner sees an apparently healthy part above an oven that refuses to fire.

Measuring current on that circuit is quick and conclusive, and it spares the gas valve from being replaced on suspicion.

The slow bake

A Maytag that takes noticeably longer than it used to has often drifted a little at a time. The sensor still works, just not to the right numbers.
