Burned terminals in the older blocks

A burned or discoloured terminal block at the back of an electric cooktop is one of our commonest Chelsea findings. The connection loosens with heat, the resistance rises, and eventually one element or the whole cooktop stops working.

We replace the block and the damaged conductor ends, but where the supply wiring behind the counter is scorched we tell the owner an electrician is needed first. Fitting new parts to a cooked cable only delays the next failure.

Glass and frames in a tight opening

When a cooktop is squeezed into an opening a fraction too small, the glass can lift away from its frame or crack at a corner where the counter presses on it. Glass lifting or separating from the frame is often a fitting problem more than a manufacturing one.

Before ordering a new top we measure the counter opening. If it is out, replacement glass will crack the same way, and we say so rather than sell a second one.

Admirals Hill and the Box District

The converted buildings on Admirals Hill often have induction or smoothtop units set into joinery, and those buildings want our insurance certificate and a booked service lift. Touch controls that stop responding or turn themselves on are the usual complaint.
