Dryer repair in Belmont & Arlington
We ask two questions when you book. Is the dryer in the basement or on an upper floor? Does its exhaust leave through a wall or through the roof?
The flap in the splash line
Basement dryers here often vent through a hood set just above the soil. Rain splashes onto it, grit settles on it, and the metal flap corrodes until it sticks half open. A half-open flap restricts the airflow and lets cold air and insects back into the duct.
It is a small part with an outsized effect on drying times. We replace it with a hood mounted higher where the wall allows, then clear the extended run behind it. Joints on those runs are often where an old section meets a newer one.
Roof caps on Arlington Heights
An upstairs laundry closet usually vents up through the attic to a cap on the roof. On the higher ground around Arlington Heights, those caps take real wind and snow. Lint can't fall out of a vertical run; it settles back down onto the nearest elbow.
Nobody can see a roof cap from the lawn, so we measure the airflow at the dryer connection instead. If the reading is poor, the problem is somewhere in the attic, and we find it before replacing an element or a thermostat.
Getting a machine in and out
Bulkheads are usually the easiest route for a full-size dryer, better than the front stair. The exception is houses that back onto the Minuteman Bikeway. They have no vehicle access at the rear, so everything has to come through the front door.
In East Arlington, the tight two-family blocks off Massachusetts Avenue may have permit-only parking. We check that when you book, so the technician isn't circling the block with a drum assembly.
Most houses in these two towns are old, owner-occupied and renovated more than once. That shows in the dryer ducts. Some have been lengthened twice as laundry moved around the basement. Others were rerouted upward when a two-family in East Arlington gained a laundry closet upstairs.

Questions
FAQ — Dryer repair in Belmont & Arlington
Can't see yours? Just ask us.
Why does my dryer smell musty at the start of a cycle?
A corroded flap that stays partly open lets damp outside air and debris into the duct. Replacing the hood and cleaning the run usually cures it.
Is a roof vent a problem?
Not necessarily, but it is harder to keep clear because lint falls back down the pipe. We test it by measuring airflow rather than by looking.
Can you reach us if we back onto the bikeway?
Yes. We plan the route through the front of the house before the visit, so moving a dryer out, if it comes to that, is organised rather than improvised.
