Vented and heat-pump models are different jobs

LG sells conventional vented dryers alongside ventless heat-pump machines, and the diagnosis diverges immediately. A vented unit depends on its exhaust run, while a heat-pump unit keeps its moist air inside and relies on a condenser and filters that need regular cleaning.

On heat-pump models, a fouled condenser or a drifting thermistor can make the dryer think it is too hot or too cold, lengthening drying times without any heater fault at all.

The long run to the outside

In older Greater Boston housing the dryer is often in a cellar, and the vent snakes sideways through brickwork before reaching daylight a floor or two up. Every elbow and flat section traps lint, and crushed foil transition hose behind the machine makes it worse.

We check that path and the flap at the termination. Birds and nests at the outlet are a surprisingly common find in spring.

Before the call

Clean the lint screen with warm water if it looks glazed from softener, since a clogged mesh can block air as effectively as a dirty duct. If the drum will not turn at all, check the door closes firmly, because a failing door switch stops the cycle before it begins.
