Elements stuck on high

A relay is a small switch on the board that energises each radiant element. When its contacts weld together from repeated arcing, the element stays on until the stove is isolated at the breaker, which is both a nuisance and a burn risk worth acting on quickly.

The fix is the surface board or, on knob-controlled models, the infinite switch that meters power to the element. Both can be tested in place, and we confirm which one before quoting.

Zones that answer and zones that don't

On LG touch-control stoves, a panel responding in some areas and not others is a different fault from a board that has lost a relay. The keypad membrane or its connector is often the culprit, and it is replaced as its own part.

Spills are the common trigger. Liquid that finds its way around the edge of the glass into the control area can corrode tracks slowly, so an intermittent zone this month becomes a dead one later.

Gas LG stoves, city and suburb

On gas models, an igniter that clicks without lighting is most often wet or fouled after cleaning rather than electrically dead. Letting the burner head dry completely and making sure the cap sits flat clears a surprising number of calls.

Anything beyond that, from valves to the regulator to the gas connection, is work for the technician only. Propane in the outer towns and piped natural gas nearer the city use different orifices, so the configuration is checked before parts are ordered.
