Most of the time that means faster corrosion on the shore side. After a storm it can mean a machine that sat in salt water.

After a flood

Seawater that reaches a washer's base can soak the drain pump motor, the wiring harness along the floor and, on low-mounted designs, the motor control board. Plugging it in while wet risks a short and a tripping circuit breaker.

Our technician inspects each low component, tests the pump and motor windings, and tells you honestly whether the machine is worth drying out and repairing. Salt residue keeps corroding contacts after the water leaves, so a quick restart is not proof of health.

Shore-side corrosion without a flood

Along Beach Bluff and Phillips Beach, cabinet screws, the door hinge and lid lock connectors corrode steadily in the salt air. Symptoms include a door that won't lock, intermittent pausing and a display that goes dark.

Cleaning or replacing the corroded connector often fixes them, and we say so rather than recommend a water treatment for a problem the water did not cause.
