Where the wear happens

Every washer spends its working life carrying a heavy wet load while vibrating, with water and power in one cabinet. On a Roper, the parts that take that punishment are the bearings, the suspension, the drive and the pump.

The simple controls rarely cause the trouble, which is part of why these machines are quick to diagnose. A washer that walks across the floor during spin usually has worn dampers or feet that need levelling, not a failing motor.

Coupler, lid switch, pump

Coupler wear leads the list, showing as a motor that hums while the basket does nothing. The lid switch and the drain pump follow, and we work through them in that order.

Most of these repairs finish on the first visit, because the parts are on the van. The lid switch fault is easy to recognise: the tub fills and agitates normally, then everything stops when the spin should start.

Cold basements and fill complaints

In an unheated cellar, a drain hose that froze overnight can trigger a drain fault that looks like a failed pump. A frozen supply hose does the same for filling.

Warm the space and try again before assuming a failure. If the fault persists, we test from the least expensive possibility upward. Standing water after the cycle, once the room is warm, is when the pump and its inlet get a closer look.
