Where cold air stops flowing

An evaporator fan that has stopped, or a coil iced solid after a defrost fault, cuts off the supply of cold air to the fresh-food side. The freezer may still feel fine, which is why owners often wait too long.

Our technician removes the rear freezer panel, looks at the coil and tests the fan, heater and defrost sensor. The failed part is named before any price is given. Neither the fan nor the heater is expensive, and both are replaced in one visit.

Sensors that hold the wrong number

A thermistor that has drifted leaves the control believing the compartment is colder or warmer than it is. The result is a fridge freezing its produce or struggling to chill drinks while seeming to work.

Measuring the sensor against a real thermometer reading confirms or rules this out in minutes. A drifting sensor is often the reason for frozen salad leaves in the crisper.

Seals and the condenser
