Heat has to go somewhere

An outdoor enclosure or built-in island often restricts the air the condenser needs. Add pollen, leaves and dust, and the coil can no longer reject heat on a July afternoon, so the cabinet warms while the compressor labours.

Cleaning the coil and confirming the fan turns freely come first. Most warm-cabinet calls on DCS refrigeration are resolved in that airflow stage, well before refrigerant enters the conversation. Enclosure vents blocked by planters, covers or furniture are a common outdoor finding too.

Seals and drains outdoors

Door gaskets in an exposed installation harden in cold and soften in sun, and they lose compression faster than indoor seals. A gap lets humid air in, and the evaporator responds by frosting up.

Drain paths block with debris more readily outside, and standing water in the base follows. We clear the drain and check the pan on every outdoor visit. A new gasket on an outdoor unit is an inexpensive part with a large effect.

Salt, corrosion and restart

On coastal properties we look closely at terminals, connectors and the condenser for corrosion. A connection that has turned green can cause intermittent running that looks like a control fault.

An evaporator fan that sat idle all winter may refuse to restart in spring. Testing it before summer entertaining begins saves a lost weekend of food. Stainless housings resist salt well; the connectors and wiring inside them are where the damage appears.
