Timers and cold controls

On these cabinets the defrost timer tends to stick before the heater fails. Stuck in defrost, it leaves the cabinet warming; stuck in cooling, it lets ice build over the coil unchecked.

The cold control can also fail or drift, so the compressor either runs endlessly or never starts. Testing each takes a matter of minutes. A cold control that has lost its sensing bulb position can behave in exactly the same way, and checking its position costs nothing.

Decades of running

Evaporator fan motors on long-lived Admirals often run dry at the bearing. Noise comes first, then weaker airflow, then a slow rise in temperature.

Door gaskets harden with age until no amount of adjustment helps. Replacement is the answer, and gaskets for these cabinets are still widely available. A hardened gasket also leaves a telltale ridge of frost along the door edge that is visible without any tools.

Parts before promises
