Two design choices drive most of the calls we receive. Bosch dries by condensation rather than with a heater, and it lets the installer set water hardness, a setting that is usually left alone at the factory default.

Wet plastics are not a fault

Condensation drying relies on the hot stainless tub pulling moisture out of the air, so glass and china dry while plastics, which hold little heat, stay damp. Cool, slightly wet containers at the end of a cycle are the machine behaving as designed.

We are called about this more than about any real Bosch failure. Rinse aid helps, and opening the door a little after the cycle helps more, but no part replacement will change the physics.

Soft water and a factory default

MWRA water from the Quabbin and Wachusett reservoirs is very soft. A Bosch left at its default hardness setting regenerates and doses as though it were fighting scale, and the milky film owners blame on a failing machine is usually leftover detergent or rinse aid.

Setting the hardness to match city water, and cutting back the detergent, clears most of those complaints on the spot. We make that adjustment as part of any Bosch dishwasher visit where it has been missed.

A quiet machine gives early warning

Because a Bosch runs so quietly, a worn pump or a failing bearing becomes audible well before it stops the machine. A new hum, rattle or whine is worth reporting while the repair is still small.
