Not Making Ice
Not Making Ice means the mould is filling but never releasing, or never filling at all. That split is settled at the fill tube and the shut-off arm before any module is considered. Most units that have stopped entirely have a latched arm, a frozen fill tube or a valve receiving no water.
- Causes
- A fill tube frozen solid at the mould · The bail arm or shut-off lever latched up · A water inlet valve receiving no supply · A seized ejector motor in the module · A clogged inlet screen behind the valve
- Repair
- We put the module through a forced harvest and watch what it does: whether the ejector turns, whether the valve energises, and whether water reaches the mould. A steamed fill tube, a reseated bail arm or a cleared inlet screen restores production on most calls. Where the module motor or the valve is genuinely dead we fit the correct part and run cycles until the bin fills at the proper rate.

Making Small or Hollow Ice Cubes
Making Small or Hollow Ice Cubes points at fill volume rather than freezing. The mould is being given less water than it is cut for, so the cubes come away shallow, or harvest begins before the centre has set and leaves a hollow shell. Supply pressure and the filter explain most of it.

- Repair
- We measure the water delivered in a single fill and compare it against what the mould holds, which tells us immediately whether the problem is supply or timing. Filters, inlet screens and saddle connections are checked for restriction, and the valve is tested for correct flow at working pressure. Where the fill volume is right and the cubes are still hollow we look at harvest timing and the mould sensing instead.

Leaking Water
Leaking Water from an ice maker is nearly always on the supply side, upstream of anything frozen. Compression fittings, the inlet valve body and the short run of tubing behind the appliance account for most of it, and the water usually appears well away from where it escaped.

- Repair
- We dry everything, pressurise the supply and watch the joints before running the machine, because a leak that appears only under flow narrows down quickly that way. The valve body, tubing run and fill tube alignment are inspected in turn and the failed part is replaced rather than tightened onto a damaged ferrule. The area is left dry and rechecked after several fill cycles.

Ice Tastes or Smells Bad
Ice Tastes or Smells Bad is usually the compartment rather than the water. Ice is porous and takes up whatever is stored around it, so uncovered food and a bin of old cubes will flavour a fresh batch within days. Filtration and tubing account for most of the rest.

- Repair

The fill tube, reservoir and mould are sanitised to the manufacturer's procedure. Then we discard several batches and taste the ice again, because a single good batch proves nothing until the bin has turned over completely.

Overfilling with Ice
Overfilling with Ice with a shut-off that works is a timing problem rather than a sensing one. Some machines keep cycling until the bin physically blocks the arm, and a household that uses very little ice will find cubes packed above the rim long before anything has failed.

- Repair
- We count batches over a measured period and compare that against what the household actually draws, which usually settles the question without opening anything. Where the module is cycling without a proper rest between batches we test the sensing and the control timing and correct whichever is running short.

Making Loud Noise
Making Loud Noise is worth identifying by when it happens rather than by how it sounds. A grind during harvest comes from the module, a bang at the end of a fill comes from the plumbing, and a rattle that runs constantly comes from a fan or a mount.

- Repair
- We listen through a complete cycle and set the noise against the stage it occurs in, which places the source before anything is dismantled. Module gears are inspected for stripped teeth, the mould is checked for ice holding the ejector, and the supply is checked for hammer at valve closure. The offending part is replaced or secured, and we run further cycles to confirm the machine has gone quiet.

Producing Too Little Ice
Producing Too Little Ice needs a batch count before it needs a diagnosis, because expectation and rated output rarely match. Once the real figure is known, the usual causes are a restricted supply, a long freeze, or ice being left behind at every harvest.

- Repair

Restrictions are cleared, timings corrected and the compartment setting adjusted, and we weigh production again afterwards to show the change rather than describe it.

Ice Clumping Together happens when cubes sit long enough to fuse into one mass. Slow use is the usual reason, but a valve that seeps after the fill, or warm air reaching the bin, will wet the pile and bond it far faster than that.

- Ice used too slowly to turn over · A fill valve seeping after the cycle ends · Warm damp air entering the bin · Repeated partial thawing and refreezing · A bin lid or flap not seating
- Repair
- We break out and discard the fused mass, then watch several cycles to see whether the pile is being wetted between them. A seeping inlet valve, a dripping fill tube or a bin flap standing open all show themselves quickly at that point. Where the unit is simply producing faster than the household uses it, we say so and set the production rate down rather than replacing parts.

Water Leaking from Ice Maker
Water Leaking from Ice Maker that shows up inside the cabinet rather than on the floor points at the mould and the bin instead of the plumbing. Overfilling, a cracked mould and melt water finding the wrong path all leave water on the shelves below without a single fitting being loose.

- Repair

Ice Not Dispensing with a full bin is a delivery fault rather than a production one. The auger has to turn, the flap has to open and the chute has to be clear, and ice fused into one mass will stop all three while the machine keeps making more behind it.

- Repair
- We empty the bin and turn the auger by hand, which tells us straight away whether the obstruction is ice or a stripped drive. The actuator switch, door switch and motor are then tested in the order the circuit runs, and the chute and flap are thawed and cleared. Failed parts are replaced and we dispense repeatedly from a full bin to confirm delivery is steady.

Ice Has Bad Taste or Odor traced to the supply rather than the bin points at what the machine is given to freeze. Chlorine, sulphur and sediment carried in the mains all concentrate as water freezes, and a stagnant length of line adds its own flavour to every batch.

Producing Small or Hollow Ice Cubes on a machine with good supply pressure is a freezing problem instead of a filling one. Cubes that harvest early come away thin and hollow, and a scaled mould conducts poorly enough to make the control believe the batch is finished before it is.

- Repair
