Bosch appliance repair in Cambridge
Two design choices explain the majority of complaints: the way Bosch dries, and a water-hardness setting that installers rarely touch. A third, the machine's near-silence, turns out to be an early-warning system. Knowing all three lets the technician separate a genuine fault from a settings issue within minutes of arriving.
Matching the setting to Fresh Pond water
Cambridge treats its own reservoir water at Fresh Pond and keeps MWRA supply as a standby, and both are soft. A Bosch programmed for harder water keeps dosing its regeneration salt as if scale were a threat, and glassware can come out filmed or cloudy.
Adjusting the hardness menu to the real supply usually clears it. Because the backup source is soft too, the setting does not need changing if the city switches supplies partway through a year, though we do ask whether the problem started around such a switch.
Wet plastics are by design
Bosch dries by letting steam condense on the cool stainless tub instead of baking the load with an element. Dishes emerge cooler, and plastic containers, which hold little heat, stay damp.
That is intended behaviour and the most common non-fault we visit. Rinse aid dosing and unloading the bottom rack first make a noticeable difference.
Listen early
Because a Bosch runs so quietly, a worn pump or bearing becomes audible well before it stops the machine. A new grinding or whine in a Harvard Square flat is worth a call before any code appears.
Bosch laundry, ovens and cooktops are also in the city, and the same principle applies: an unfamiliar sound from quiet German-engineered equipment is information, not background noise.
Bosch is the dishwasher we open most often in Cambridge's compact kitchens, frequently a 24-inch model or a panel-ready one hidden behind a cabinet front in a Kendall Square or East Cambridge building. Most calls about it are not failures at all.

Questions
FAQ — Bosch repair in Cambridge
Can't see yours? Just ask us.
Should I install a water softener for my Bosch?
Not in Cambridge. The supply is already soft, and softening it further would etch glassware permanently.
My panel-ready Bosch needs to come out. Is that a problem?
It is part of the job rather than a problem. In the newer Kendall buildings we arrange elevator access and insurance paperwork beforehand so removal from the joinery is unhurried.
Is the dishwasher broken if plastics are wet?
Almost certainly not. Condensation drying leaves plastics damp by design, and a quick check of rinse aid usually settles it.
